Mark W. Nickels M.D. is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and the Director of Transplant Psychiatry. He is board certified in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. He has been providing clinical consultation to the Liver and Kidney Transplant programs since 1998 and to the URMC Heart Failure and Transplantation program since 2000. He was a part-time consultant for 10 years to the Strong Epilepsy Center, and did psychiatric evaluations on bariatric surgery candidates for area surgeons for many years. Dr. Nickels has provided psychiatric consultation in general hospital settings, including to the Wilmot Cancer Center, to primary care providers in their offices and also at Highland Family Medicine, and he provided critical incident debriefing to the Rochester Police Department. In addition he maintains a small psychotherapy practice.
He is excited to be the first director of the Fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at URMC, looking forward to both teaching and learning from its Fellows.
