In 2012, the Department transitioned into a 24/7 Radiology Attending Schedule to oversee and report on imaging examinations performed at the University of Rochester Medical Center and allied sites. The Residency work schedule was organized to coordinate with the Faculty schedule.
There are 3 Radiology Resident work shifts as follows:
The main daytime work shift for Residents is from 8 am to 6 pm for most rotations.
Four weeks per year, each Resident will cover the pm shift which is from 2:30 pm to no later than 11 pm. There are 3 Residents on the pm shift who are assigned with Subspecialty Faculty to report on examinations during this period.
Four weeks per year, each Resident will be assigned to the overnight shift (“night float”) which is from 10 pm to 8 am. There are 2 Residents on this shift at a time who, work with ED Radiology Faculty.
All trainees share call. The day typically begins with morning rounds where patients for the day are reviewed and a treatment plan is created for each patient. Out-patient requests are also reviewed and approved. In the procedure room, a graduated responsibility model is utilized, with autonomy coupled with responsibility. There are weekly didactic conferences on Wednesdays, with various multi-disciplinary conferences each week. The trainees enjoy a collegial relationship with trainees from other departments.
