Curriculum
To be eligible to sit for the America Board of Pathology certification examination, a trainee must have completed 48 months of training in an ACGME-accredited combined AP/CP residency program or 36 months in an AP-only or CP-only training program. Our AP/CP-4 curriculum includes 18 months of core program requirements in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with the remaining 12 months distributed among a variety of electives. Residents pursuing AP only or CP only training includes 24 months of core AP or core CP. Of the remaining 12 months, a minimum of 6 months is structured education in one or more highly integrated areas of pathology. The remaining 6 months is devoted to a specialized facet of pathology, which may include up to 6 months of research. Didactic conferences, interdisciplinary conferences and Laboratory Management series enhance the trainees' educational opportunities.

- Subspecialized Surgical Pathology, with rotations through Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, Breast Pathology, Genitourinary Pathology, GI/Hepatobiliary Pathology, Frozens/Gross, Thoracic Pathology, Head and Neck Pathology, and Pediatric Pathology (antenatal, postnatal)

- Forensic Pathology (at the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office)

Electives in other areas may be arranged.
Advanced electives are available and can be tailored to meet the specific career objectives of the resident (i.e. hot seat, advanced SP sub-specialty, regional, community hospital, autopsy junior attending, advanced cytopathology, research, etc.).
