Welcome to the Child Neurology Residency Program!

2021 Child Neurology ResidentsThank you for your interest in our Child Neurology residency-training program at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. We hope you have the opportunity to visit us virtually and learn about our unique program. We combine a highly supportive, friendly, family-style atmosphere with a large and diverse patient population drawn from a population of approximately 5 million individuals in Upstate and Western New York, Northern Pennsylvania and beyond.

The department currently has about 140 faculty, and the child neurology division includes 20 primary faculty members and 10 associated faculty with diverse sub-specialty interests. Our faculty are incredibly down-to-earth, supportive, and are terrific teachers. We prize active learning, autonomy, and flexibility as cornerstones to quality graduate medical education.

What Our Residents Say...

Shermila Pia

“I feel very fortunate to have been able to train with the outstanding pediatric neurologists and staff at the University of Rochester. This is a close-knit program that works together to ensure the success, professional development, and well-being of its residents. Our program director, Dr. Stone, is not only a phenomenal educator and person, but also works diligently to ensure residents have a tailored learning experience throughout their residency. He not only listens to the residents but quickly implements change based on resident feedback – just another strength of our program.

The adult and child neurology residency programs at the University of Rochester are known for their outstanding teaching but what truly stands out to me, is the level of autonomy and continuity of care residents have with their patients. We are the primary providers for our patients but are well supported by faculty when needed. This has been instrumental in my learning of the many complex diseases of pediatric neurology.

As a minority in medicine, I am proud to see the dedication our program director has put forth to anti-racist initiatives by integrating lectures of health disparities, inequities and racism into the curriculum, but also pledging to support the Association of Minority Residents and Fellows here at Rochester.

Overall, I couldn’t have matched at a better residency program!”
