Learn about the epidemiology, risk factors, and recommended screening tests for skin cancer and for the 3 most common (non-skin) cancers in Women and Men in the United States, through didactic instruction, self review and interactive presentations with care providers and/or the general public. PMRY1 Objectives

Participate in reviewing the literature to assist with preparing presentations regarding the epidemiology, risk factors and appropriate cancer screening practices for one or all of these cancers. (Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Professionalism)

Participate in giving a presentation regarding these factors for one or all of these cancers to fellow professionals and/or the general public. (Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Professionalism)

Observe and participate in systems in the local health community that provide cancer screening for those who cannot afford it. (Interpersonal and Communication Skills, System’s-Based Practice, Professionalism)

Observe and participate in developing a quality improvement plan for an outpatient clinic to improve the appropriate referral of their patients for cancer screening. Observe and participate in developing a community based intervention to reduce cancer risk factors (e.g. policies to reduce tobacco availability, tobacco-free campus initiatives). PMRY2 Objectives

Independently review the literature and prepare presentations regarding the epidemiology, risk factors and appropriate cancer screening practices for one or all of these cancers. (Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Professionalism)

Independently give a presentation regarding these factors for one or all of these cancers to fellow professionals and/or the general public. (Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Professionalism)

Independently present or lead a discussion amongst your colleagues about the differences between recommendations and the possible reasons for them.

Observe and participate in applying the above knowledge to develop a program to increase activities that reduce the risk of cancer and in communicating this plan to stakeholders. (ACGME Competencies 4 listed)

Observe and participate in applying the above knowledge to develop a program to assist clinician in more effectively counseling their patients to increase their activities that reduce their cancer risk and in communicating this plan. (ACGME Competencies 4 listed)

Observe and participate in investigating laws or policies that would discourage activities that increase the risk of cancer, encourage activities that reduce cancer burden, and/or encourage clinicians to appropriately screen and counsel their patents regarding cancer prevention.   Also participate in communicating this plan. Learn about the organization and management of a National health advocacy organization and in particular how the local chapter is governed and interacts with the national organization. (ACGME Competencies: Practice-Based Learning & Improvement, Interpersonal & Communication Skills, Professionalism)

Observe and participate in the daily management activities of the Local American Cancer Society Chapter. (ACGME Competencies 3 listed)

Participate with the local executive director or other staff of the local ACS in preparing and giving a presentation for a board meeting of the local ACS chapter or another lay-person group. (ACGME Competencies 3 listed)

Participate  in an evaluation of a program (or potential program) of the local ACS chapter and in presenting the evaluation (ACGME Competencies 3 listed)

PMRY2 Objectives
