Health Policy & Outcomes

PHS faculty are engaged in research around health policy and outcomes. Current research efforts are diverse and focus on the impact of federal, state, local, and institutional policies and interventions on health outcomes, care quality, and healthcare cost. Examples of studies include: 1) impact of air quality policies on acute cardiovascular and respiratory health outcomes; 2) impact of Medicare and Medicaid payment policies and program reforms on quality, outcomes, and health disparities; 3) impact of state regulations of long-term care providers and their practices on care quality; 4) the law as a social determinant of health; 5) Veterans Health Administration laws and directives regarding care of frail older Veterans in institutional and non-institutional settings; and many others.  Related research activities focus on developing data infrastructure, statistical methods to conduct causal effectiveness studies, outcome measures and risk adjustment methods.
