Residents who wish to earn additional income through elective outside professional opportunities are permitted to do so following the first half of the PGY-2 year. This requires the approval of the Program Director, based on satisfactory discharge of his/her clinical responsibilities and educational progress. Although a New York State medical license is not required for residency training, it is required for any additional professional activities.

Comfortable offices equipped with a computer are provided for each resident. PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents share offices. PGY-3 and PGY-4 residents have individual offices. Computers are linked to a network printer and/or an in-office printer.

Residents participate in Fall and Spring off-site retreats, organized by the Chief Resident. These retreats give residents time to spend together as a group, to develop policy recommendations and feedback concerning the program to the Residency Curriculum Committee, and to discuss education and career opportunities.

Education Resource Room

The Department of Psychiatry provides this multidisciplinary room for psychiatry residents, ACGME fellows, psychology doctoral interns and psychology postdoctoral fellows in our accredited programs. It offers a large, comfortable gathering place complete with a small conference table, three computers, a color printer, a network printer, refrigerator, microwave, cable television with DVD player and an extensive collection of reference and library books. It also has a separate, quiet, comfortable room for studying, reading and viewing video materials.

Edward G. Miner Library

Other benefits include: business cards are provided for residents PGY-2 year and above; books are provided for residents in the core didactics; lab coats and/or scrubs are provided by the GME Office and monogrammed by the Department of Psychiatry.
