Curriculum Overview/Rotations Clinical Experience Residents spend approximately 42 of their 48 months of training rotating through the various clinical services. Rotations change every 2-3 months. Generally, residents work with one attending who specializes in a specific disease site. Over the course of four years, residents spend the majority of their rotation time at Strong Memorial Hospital (site of the Wilmot Cancer Center ). Additional rotations are completed at two off-site centers - the Pluta Cancer Center, and our affilitated hospital, Highland Hospital. Both facilities are located within 5.5 miles of Strong Memorial Hospital. The Core Rotations are structured so as to have residents working one-on-one with an attending, with the exception of one service which encompasses two faculty members. This type of structure ensures that residents receive individual attention from their attending physicians, and that they are provided a consistent and methodical educational experience. Each service is equipped with its own dedicated team of staff members including a clinical secretary, a nurse, as well as a support person from the physics/dosimetry division. Our clinical faculty include internationally recognized leaders in stereotactic radiotherapy, pediatric oncology and lymphoma/leukemia. Each resident gains a broad exposure to the entire spectrum of oncology patients and their treatment, thereby developing an expertise in: Intensity modulated RT (IMRT) Stereotactic Radio-surgery (SRS) Stereotactic Body RT (SBRT, SABR) Image-guided RT (IGRT) (Tomotherapy, cone beam CT, kv-kv) 4D CT Total Body Radiation (TBI); Total Marrow Radiotherapy Brachytherapy (LDR prostate, HDR intracavitary) Radioembolization Unsealed Sources Residents remain under the guidance of our attendings for their entire four years of training. As they progress through higher levels of competence, residents are given increasing responsibility for management of their patients, including therapeutic decision making and creativity in developing optimal treatment strategies.
