Students

Zareef earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Hertfordshire.  His research interests include multiple aspects of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms (MDROs), including resistance mechanisms, how bacteria evade the immune system, and the importance of developing antibiotics to combat MDRO infections.

Amal calls herself a multi-lingual mix, born in Pakistan but having grown up in Saudi Arabia. Her cat (Mr. Max) is a great companion, although he's best friends with her husband!  Amal loves to run, swim and hike, read historical period novels, and enjoys everything Marvel.  She's also a huge foodie and one of her long term goals is to experience different street foods from around the world. Her undergrad degree is in Biotechnology and she is aiming for a career in cancer clinical research.

Yuchang graduated from China Agricultural University majoring in Animal Science. Her main research interest is the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and the development of novel therapies to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. In her spare time, she enjoys reading philosophy and social science books, and she is also interested in rock music.

Nicholas grew up in Rochester, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from The George Washington University. In his free time he enjoys cooking and hiking with his dog.
 

Sana grew up in Kashmir and earned her undergraduate degree in plant pathology.  She moved to Rochester in 2020, and found that she enjoyed the diversity of people, quiet neighborhoods, and parks offered here.  In her spare time, Sana likes to read, practice calligraphy, and cook.   Her research interests lie in Immunology.

Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Central Florida, where she discovered her passion for immunology and being in the lab. In her spare time, you can find Jennifer learning a new skill or hobby, traveling, spending time outside, and exploring strange new worlds through reading.

Lauren is a Rochester native but has been living in the Midwest for the past three years studying the gut microbiome at University of Chicago. Her main focus was on interactions within bacterial consortia, both in vitro and in vivo, for treating C. difficile and Klebsiella
infections. Aside from research, she also loves animals, making music, and doing DIY crafts. Lauren is so excited to join the MS program at UR!

Saloni is an incoming Masters student from India, passionate about research in Immunology. She loves to connect with other people from the field. In her free time, she enjoys reading books and watching TV shows.

Catherine joins us from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she earned a BS in Human Biology.  She was a collegiate soccer player there, as well as during time spent at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Chenghao is from Beijing, China. He is interested in host-pathogen and pathogen-microbe interactions. He also enjoys traveling and recently has been learning film photography.

Thomas Is from South Carolina and obtained his BS in Biochemistry from Elon University. In his free time, he enjoys playing tabletop and video games as well as going mountain biking. He is interested in studying virology.
