In addition to being Dean, Edith is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology with one of the longest running labs in SMD and has trained more than 55 students and postdocs.

While students and postdocs are welcome to meet with Edith to discuss any topic, trainees typically meet with Edith to discuss concerns related to coursework, research or related academic progress, and program/committee/advisor dynamics. Life Sciences Writing Solutions LLC and University of Buffalo. A membership to the American Medical Writer Association will be awarded to three participants who submit a EPA funding explanation (500 words or less). Turn in a hard copy to Elizabeth at her talk or to Tracey May 16 by 5:00 pm so she can hand over to Elizabeth. Your prompts (1) Explain how Environmental Protection Agency budget cuts will affect your hometown or the Rochester area and call your audience to take action to protect EPA funding. (2) Your target audience is a group of family members or neighbors, without scientific training or expertise, who are against government funding for environmental protection. (3) Write at a seventh-grade reading level (assessment tool below). Do not use more than 500 words. Do not spend more than two hours researching, writing, and editing.

The University of Rochester Toastmasters Club (Daybreakers) invites you to its next Guest Day

    Doctoral Degree candidates must arrive to the Grand Balcony of the Eastman Theatre no later than 8:00 a.m. to allow sufficient time for robing and assembly of processional columns. Guests may enter through the main entrance to Eastman Theatre. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for guests. Tickets are not required for this ceremony.

Volunteer Opportunities in Science

“Ask a Scientist” table this summer at The Brighton Farmers Market

May 14, 2017-November 19, 2017 (Sundays) | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm  | Brighton High School (parking lot), 1150 Winton Road S.  Brighton 

The Brighton Farmers Market has offered to provide a table during the summer market which they are calling "Ask a Scientist." The goal is to capitalize on the energy from local teach-ins and the March for Science to provide educational outreach on an ongoing basis. The market takes place on Sundays from 9am - 1pm, May 14 - November 19. The GoogleDoc includes a sign-up for two-hour time slots throughout the summer. If you are interested in participating, please sign yourself up, and pass the link on to others who may be interested. Ladies in the Lab

Interested in Science Communication? The Rochester Museum & Science Center is celebrating influential women in science. Discover how women have impacted the sciences in the past, present and future, and learn more about local organizations that empower women in our community.  RMSC is seeking women scientists interested in sharing their research with visitors.  They welcome all scientific fields, including biology, chemistry, statistics, astronomy, engineering, physics, computer science, math, geology, and the humanities. SustainABLE and Building with Biology Days

July 11, 12 & 13, 2017 | 11:00 am – 3:00 pm | Rochester Museum & Science Center

Are you a graduate student, postdoc or faculty member?  Do you have a background in genetics, synthetic biology, gene manipulation, or environmental science? The Rochester Museum & science Center is looking for volunteers interested in supporting hands-on science demonstrations for SustainABLE and Building with Biology Days. Training and materials will be provided for all activities. Volunteers can select the dates and times that works with their schedule.
