LCME Survey Visit
From October 18-21, an ad hoc survey team from the Liaison Committee on Medication Education (LCME) - the national accrediting body for educational programs leading to the M.D. degree in the United States and Canada will visit the school as part of the reaccreditation process. Data has been submitted to the LCME and preparation for the visit continues. The LCME survey team will meet with faculty, residents, students and administrators during their visit here. The process has been very helpful to the school to maintain our excellence. We anticipate a successful reaccreditation experience.
School of Medicine & Dentistry Policies
The University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (URSMD) has updated and revised important medical student policies. Students, residents and faculty should be aware of these policies to optimize the learning environment. Policies and Procedures are located, in full, in the URSMD student handbook. You may also access the Teacher-Learner polices.
Addressing Disparities in Healthcare Module
On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, the first year medical students participated in an innovative one-day inter-professional module with University of Rochester nursing students and dietetic interns from Cornell. The Addressing Disparities in Healthcare Module introduced students to the impact and role of population/community health and bioethics in addressing disparities in healthcare delivery. Within care teams, students discussed standardized patients who represented an extended family. The students explored how socio-economic disparities based on zip code, living conditions, and access to care, impact health in families. Students reflected on their own biases and knowledge of the principles of bioethics as they applied them to case scenarios.
Current first year medical students will participate in this module on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
Teaching Opportunities at the University of Rochester School of Medicine

Clinical teaching in the clerkships
Small Group teaching
Serving as a Problem Based Learning tutor
Serving as preceptor for 1st and 2nd year medical students
Please contact the Office of Curriculum and Assessment at 275-0827 to discuss the different options available.
Upgrades to Adolph Auditorium
The new academic year is bringing changes to the teaching facilities at URSMD. The Adolph Auditorium is currently being renovated to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The renovated auditorium will have increased table top space with outlets for students to facilitate learning with an electronic iPad based curriculum. In addition to the structural renovations, the school is upgrading the auditorium's technology resources. We anticipate that the renovation will be complete by early 2016.
Transition to new evaluation system MedHub
On July 1, URSMD transitioned to MedHub for its evaluation program. Faculty, residents and students now complete all evaluations in MedHub. Student are required to log all required clerkship procedures and diagnoses in MedHub as well.
