Elaine Hill Lab Postdoctoral Associate Position
The Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester announces an immediate opening for a postdoctoral associate under the supervision of Dr. Elaine L. Hill. The successful candidate will participate in a recently funded project by NIH. The project involves comprehensively assessing the health consequences of shale gas development using a multi-disciplinary approach. The goal of this research is to broadly understand the trade-offs, such as increased economic activity versus environmental degradation or harm to public health, that policymakers and community members face with respect to energy production, as well as the implications for public health and environmental health policy.
Applications from a wide-range of disciplinary backgrounds will be considered, including economics, statistics, epidemiology, health services, and related fields. The appointee will receive mentorship and financial support for research and travel to conferences, where applicable.
The successful candidate will have recently completed a PhD in his/her field or will have completed their degree by the start of the position. Strong quantitative and writing skills are a must. Experience with statistical programming in any of the following is desirable: SAS, STATA, or R. The research will also benefit from knowledge of spatial statistics and GIS. Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate a desire to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment. The initial salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience, and will include benefits.
The position is initially available for one year with the possibility of renewal based upon performance and a mutual desire to continue the appointment. The start date for this position is flexible, but ideally would begin before or around July 1, 2017.
