Highland Breast Imaging Offers Free Mammography Screenings Oct. 12

Breast Cancer Education Event is Oct. 17

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Highland Breast Imaging Center – in conjunction with the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester and Cancer Services Program of Monroe County – will offer free mammograms to women 40 and older who are uninsured or underinsured. The event is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 12 at Highland Breast Imaging, 500 Red Creek Drive, Suite 130. Refreshments will be served and a Reiki therapist will offer free sessions. Parking is free for participants.

Appointments are required and can be made at (585) 487-3305 or (585) 487-3304. Women who cannot make the screening are encouraged to schedule an appointment for a different day. For the past nine years, Highland Breast Imaging has been offering free mammograms to women who do not have insurance or whose insurance does not cover breast cancer screenings. Hundreds of women have been screened for breast cancer as a result.

Proceeds from Highland’s annual Breast Cancer Education Event help make these potentially life-saving screenings possible. On Oct. 17, Highland Hospital hosts its 20th Annual Breast Cancer Education Event, “Pampered in Pink,” at 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Rochester. Keynote speaker will be nationally known author and breast cancer survivor Jennie Nash. Avice O’Connell, M.D., Director of Highland Breast Imaging, will provide the latest information on breast cancer research and screening technology available in the community. 13WHAM’s Ginny Ryan will emcee the event.

The evening will also include chair massages, Reiki and spa-like amenities, as well as raffle items for guests, “comfort food” hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. For information, call (585) 341-0530. Tickets are $60 and can be reserved online at HighlandBreastCancerEducationEvent.urmc.edu
