Free Mammograms Offered to Uninsured Women on Mother’s Day Weekend

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

This year the day before Mother’s Day, free breast cancer screenings will be offered for uninsured women, age 40 and older. The event will take place on Saturday, May 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at UR Medicine Breast Imaging, 500 Red Creek Drive, Suite 130. The office is off Calkins Road, near Marketplace Mall.

Previously known as Highland Breast Imaging Center, UR Medicine Breast Imaging has been offering free mammograms for the past nine years. In collaboration with the Cancer Services Program of Monroe County, UR Medicine Breast Imaging has served hundreds of women who may not have been screened otherwise. Mammography can detect cancers that are too small for women to find with a self-exam and early diagnosis is the best weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

To provide a relaxing experience along with this potentially life-saving screening, women will be treated to refreshments and a soothing reiki treatment.

Free transportation is available for women who need rides. Free parking is also available.

Women must call for an appointment at 585-487-3304 by Tuesday, May 5.  If not available on May 9, women are encouraged to schedule an appointment for a different day.

Coverage for mammograms and diagnostic services is provided courtesy of the Cancer Services Program of Monroe County.
