Highland Family Planning Health and Resource Fair

Monday, August 17, 2015

Highland Family Planning will host a free Health and Resource Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 19th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event is open to the public and will take place at Highland Family Medicine, 777 S. Clinton Avenue.

Community-based organizations such as NeighborWorks, Foodlink, Highland Hospital, Highland Family Medicine, Safe Sex Inc. and others will share health tips and education with attendees. The fair also includes music, raffles, games and snacks for everyone.

Free emergency contraceptive is also being offered as part of the effort to help prevent unintended pregnancies. Mistakes can happen if routine birth control methods are used incorrectly and for those instances, access to emergency contraception is important.

According to the Metro Council for Teen Potential, there is good news: Rochester’s teen birth rate has declined 42 percent from 2008-2013. There is still room for improvement in these statistics if we continue offering programs for young people that focus on sex education, better access to reproductive health care and peer to peer health education.

Highland Family Planning, which is part of Highland Family Medicine, offers affordable and confidential birth control and reproductive health services for both men and women, including teens. All FDA approved methods of birth control, including emergency contraception, are available for clients. The Highland Family Planning clinic is open on Mondays or Wednesdays from noon until 8:00 p.m. Walk in appointments are available or call (585) 279-4890 to schedule an appointment. Major insurances such as Medicaid are accepted. For those without insurance coverage, services are available on a sliding fee scale. VISA and MasterCard are also acceptable forms of payment.
