Highland Hospital Foundation Awards Maxion Family with its Highest Honor

Monday, August 17, 2015

The Highland Hospital Foundation will be honoring the family of the late Linda Maxion with the 2015 Heritage Award on Wednesday, August 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Linda’s Healing Garden at Highland Hospital.

The Heritage Award is the highest honor given by The Highland Hospital Foundation for philanthropic contributions. It honors a person or organization that played a significant role at Highland Hospital and in our community. The person is selected based on their donation of time, talent, and financial support.

The staff at Highland Hospital had the great privilege of caring for Linda and getting to know her during her courageous battle with cancer. Before she passed in April 2013, Linda donated $200,000 through the Maxion Family Charitable Fund of the Rochester Area Foundation. Her support and love of the community led to the construction of “Linda’s Healing Garden” on Highland Hospital’s campus. Maxion and her family worked closely with Highland representatives on the 3,300-square-foot design. The garden is a beautiful area where patients, families and staff can enjoy fresh air and a quiet place for reflection.

“The Heritage Award is the highest honor that the Highland Hospital Foundation bestows upon a member of our community,” said Mark Eidlin, Board Chair. “Linda Maxion’s vision was transformative and inspirational in the creation of the Healing Garden.  As a patient, volunteer, and champion of Highland, I’m so glad the hospital has Linda’s Garden and that the Foundation is able to recognize Linda’s family with the Heritage Award in her honor.”

The Heritage Award Ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments followed by remarks from Cindy Becker, Vice President and COO of Highland Hospital and Steve Goldstein, President and CEO of Strong Memorial and Highland Hospitals. Linda’s husband Bob McMahon will also be speaking at the ceremony.

Past recipients of The Heritage Award include Honorable Thomas & Betty Richards, Eileen Grossman, and Dr. Eva Pressman and Dr. Seth Zeidman.
