Highland Hospital Foundation Awards Dr. David Sischy with its Highest Honor

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

The Highland Hospital Foundation is honored to present David Sischy, M.D. with the 2016 Heritage Award. Dr. Sischy was presented with the award last night at the Memorial Art Gallery on the 25th Anniversary of The Ben Sischy, M.D. Visiting Scholar in Humane Medicine Lecture.

The Heritage Award is the highest honor given by The Highland Hospital Foundation for philanthropic contributions. It honors a person or organization that plays a significant role at Highland Hospital and in our community. The person is selected based on their donation of time, professional strengths, and financial support.

The Ben Sischy, M.D. Visiting Scholar in Humane Medicine Lecture is named for the father of David Sischy, M.D. The lecture was created in 1991 as a tribute to Dr. Ben Sischy who helped establish the department of Radiation Oncology at Highland Hospital and was chief of the program for more than 20 years.

This year, David Sischy, M.D. is being honored for helping to lead, plan and execute The Ben Sischy, M.D. Visiting Scholar in Humane Medicine Lecture. This lecture brings hundreds of care providers, administrators, and community members together to hear firsthand from experts in the medical field who have mastered the art of practicing or creating cultures of humane medicine.  Dr. David Sischy receives this award in recognition of his commitment to celebrating Highland Hospital’s person centered care culture through the annual lecture and for leading the fundraising effort that has helped sustain and grow this event.

“I’m pleased to see Highland Hospital at the forefront of this important topic. Highland’s culture of person-centered care continues to be a point of pride for our community hospital. From the beginning, David has played an important role in working with our physicians and leaders to identify speakers who encourage Rochester’s medical community to approach medicine from different perspectives. This year’s speaker Adrienne Boissy, M.D. spoke about effective communication between patients and care providers.” said Mark Eidlin, Highland Foundation Board Chair “This topic is incredibly timely with the changes healthcare is facing. We’re grateful and honored that David Sischy continues to share so much of his time, ensuring that his father’s legacy is carried on through this important Lecture. We’re thrilled to bestow him with the Heritage Award.”

Dr. David Sischy received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He was an Internist at the University of Rochester prior to joining the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Putnam Physicians group in Bennington, Vermont where he practiced until his retirement in 2015.

Past recipients of The Heritage Award include Linda Maxion, the Honorable Thomas & Betty Richards, Eileen Grossman, and Dr. Eva Pressman and Dr. Seth Zeidman.
