Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Author and breast cancer survivor, Jennie Nash

Jennie Nash will be the guest speaker at Highland Hospital’s 20th Annual Breast Cancer Education Event, “Pampered in Pink,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Hyatt Regency Rochester.

Purchase tickets now. Nash is a breast cancer survivor and author of four novels and three memoirs, including The Victoria’s Secret Catalog Never Stops Coming and Other Lessons I Learned from Breast Cancer. Nash tells the story of how she became wise beyond her years after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 35. She says her battle with cancer gave her the opportunity to look as closely at illness and death as she had been looking at life.

"Everyone always says that cancer changes you, and almost from the moment of my diagnosis, I wanted to know exactly how,” says Nash, whose diagnosis came as a direct result of a friend who lost her battle with cancer. Nash has taught classes on illness and storytelling at both UCLA and WebMD.com. A graduate of Wellesley College, Nash lives with her husband and their two girls in Los Angeles.

In addition to Nash’s keynote speech, Avice O’Connell, M.D., Director of Highland Breast Imaging, will provide the latest information on breast cancer research and screening technology available in the community. 13WHAM-TV's Ginny Ryan will emcee the event. The evening will also include spa-like services and raffle items for guests as well as hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Tickets cost $60.
