UR Medicine/Highland Hospital Welcomes Three New Orthopaedic Surgeons

UR Medicine/Highland Hospital announces the addition of three new orthopaedic surgeons: Sandeep Mannava, M.D., Ph.D., Emmanuel Menga, M.D., and Susan McDowell, M.D. Dr. Mannava specializes in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction and replacement, Dr. Menga specializes in degenerative and  traumatic spine disorders, and Dr. McDowell specializes in Orthopaedic Oncology. All three doctors will see patients and perform surgery at Highland Hospital.

 

Dr. Mannava earned his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse before going on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience from Wake Forest University. Dr. Mannava completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in orthopaedic surgery, orthopaedic regenerative medicine, biomedical engineering and neuroscience during his residency at Wake Forest University. After completing his residency, Dr. Mannava went on to work in the Steadman-Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado, as a fellow for knee, shoulder, and hip sports medicine.

Dr. Menga is a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a Petty Officer with the Construction Battalion Unit. He earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Menga completed his residency training and served as chief resident in Orthopaedic surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then completed his fellowship training in Orthopaedic spinal and deformity surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint Diseases in a combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery training program.  

 

Dr. McDowell is also a veteran, who served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Corps. While on active duty, she was deployed for nearly one year to Kandahar, Afghanistan. Dr. McDowell completed both her Doctor in Medicine and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine before continuing on to a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine-Mayo Foundation.
