Highland becomes one of eight New York hospitals to receive an “A” rating from Leapfrog.

Highland Hospital ranks in the top percentile of New York hospitals based on safety measures, according to a study published by the national nonprofit The Leapfrog Group. In its biannual report, the group reported that Highland was one of only eight out of the 137 hospitals compared across the state that received an “A” rating. Highland was also the only local hospital to receive the top score.

The Leapfrog Group evaluates and reports on the safety and quality performance of U.S. hospitals. Its comprehensive assessment grades nearly 2,500 hospitals across 50 states on an A through F scale. The grades are based on hospital errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, among other factors. The report ranks states overall based on their hospitals and breaks down the individual facilities as well.

“This rating is proof of Highland Hospital’s commitment to patient safety,” said Cindy Becker, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Highland Hospital. “We continually reevaluate our efforts toward preventing errors and making sure we’re using best practices to ensure our hospital is the safest it can be.”
