Highland Hospital announces the appointment of Roan J. Glocker, M.D., M.P.H., as Chief of Surgery.

Dr. Glocker, a native of the Rochester area and McQuaid graduate, is Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Rochester. He received his B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology from Tulane University. He then earned a Master of Public Health from Dartmouth College and his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. Following his residency in General Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center, he completed a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

After completion of training, Dr. Glocker returned to Rochester and joined the faculty at UR, focusing his practice at Highland Hospital. Dr. Glocker's areas of clinical interest include both open and endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular, aortic, and lower extremity arterial disease, as well as management of venous and lymphatic conditions, and hemodialysis access.

In addition to Dr. Glocker’s clinical and research efforts, he is active in teaching the next generation of physicians and surgeons, serving as the clerkship director for the third-year medical students at the University.  He also serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Highland Hospital Medical Staff and is on several national committees.

Dr. Glocker succeeds Joseph Johnson, M.D., who steps down after serving as the department’s leader for more than 20 years. Dr. Johnson will continue to serve as Chief of the Bariatric/GI division within the University of Rochester Department of Surgery and continue his surgical practice as Associate Professor of Surgery in the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group.
