Accurate information is extremely important in making decisions about shoulder surgery. The orthopaedic surgeons at the Evarts Joint Center will provide you with a comprehensive evaluation, and will help you choose the treatment plan that is right for you. We have the widest range of treatment options in Upstate New York. If you already have a plan in place, we're happy to give you another opinion.

Shoulder Surgery

Total Shoulder Replacement is generally done to address persistent pain that is not controlled by non-surgical therapy. In a standard total shoulder replacement, the ball and socket of the joint are replaced by implants. Placement of the prosthetic components ensures that the smooth gliding surfaces of the shoulder joint are recreated and normal function is restored.

Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty is designed to compensate for loss of function of the shoulder due to damage to the rotator cuff. The procedure completely reverses the structure of the shoulder, and makes it possible for the arm to be raised using the deltoid muscle. The diseased ball end of the humerus bone is removed, and the bone is hollowed out to receive an implant fitted with a prosthetic socket. A ball-shaped prosthetic is fixed to the original socket area of the shoulder blade.

Shoulder Resurfacing Arthroplasty is a minimally invasive procedure performed through smaller incisions and involves only minimal moving and cutting. This may be an alternative option for qualified younger patients who want to resume athletic activities after surgery.

Shoulder Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive technique used by orthopaedic surgeons to diagnose and treat a range of conditions affecting the joint such as arthritic shoulder, stiff shoulder, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, and many others.
