University of Rochester's Highland Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner Residency Program

The University of Rochester Family Medicine Residency program and Highland Family Medicine are proud to offer a unique opportunity for Family Nurse Practitioner graduates: The Nurse Practitioner Residency Program.

About Our Program

The NP Residency Program at HFM provides FNP graduates with the training required to meet the needs of culturally diverse and clinically complex patients.

NP residents will be exposed to innovative models of primary care that are rooted in evidence-based principles of integrated medical and behavioral healthcare. Team-based care, interprofessional education, and practice efficiency will be emphasized with attention toward ongoing healthcare reform.

No other program offers this true integration of NPs and other healthcare professionals training in the same setting.  We are a proud member of the National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium. We have recently been reaccredited for another 5 years. Please visit the public comment website below:

Our Residency Programs

We have been awarded the Advanced Nursing Education Nurse Practitioner Residency Integration Program grant from HRSA, allowing us to extend to a rural practice setting. In partnership with Tri-County Family Medicine, headquartered in Dansville, N.Y., we can offer a broader learning experience with a rural track.

We are currently recruiting two FNP graduates to live and practice in the Tri-County community and two FNP residents to practice at Highland Family Medicine. Working closely with our academic partner, the University of Rochester School of Nursing, we have developed a robust curriculum to prepare FNPs for rural and urban practice.
