Associate Medical Director Message: Commitment to Physician Wellness

In the past few years, studies have revealed the pervasiveness of physician burnout in our country. The American Medical Association and the National Academy of Medicine have made burnout and wellness top priorities. UR Medicine is developing ways to address the causes and promote physician wellness in our health system.

Studies have shown that physician frustration as measured at URMC is composed of 80 percent workflow and 20 percent information technology challenges. Several URMC committees are working to address the issue including: Provider Advisory Council, EMR Optimization Committee, URMFG Task Force on Team Documentation, and Physician Wellbeing Index. In fact, commitment to physician wellbeing is part of UR Medicine's strategic plan.

Work is being done in Compliance and Legal Affairs to determine what can be done to debunk regulatory myths and simplify processes. Your input is being solicited to determine barriers to providing care and suggestions on how to create a healthier working environment. You can learn more about this topic on the internet provider page.
