Joseph A. Nicholas, M.D., M.P.H., Named Highland Hospital Associate Chief of Medicine

Joseph A. Nicholas, M.D., M.P.H., has been named incoming Associate Chief of Medicine, starting in March. Dr. Nicholas, who has been on staff at Highland for 16 years, currently serves as the Highland Director of Medical Education, as well as the Associate Director for the UR Residencies in Internal Medicine and the Combined Program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  He will be stepping down from the medical director position at the Highlands at Brighton.

“I am really excited to collaborate with our faculty and APPs to continue the wonderful trajectory of the Highland Hospital Department of Medicine,” said Dr. Nicholas. “I am thankful to Dr. Monk for her support, and Drs. McCann and Mendelson for their mentorship.  I'm honored to work with so many dedicated faculty, APPs and program administrators, who have worked tirelessly alongside Highland staff to help keep our community afloat during this pandemic.”

Dr. Nicholas is inspired by those he works with in the department. “We are so lucky to have such a talented group of clinicians, educators, and administrators, and our goals are to make sure that everyone is contributing to the mission of our department in as many ways as they would like.  In addition to providing nuanced, patient-centered care to people in our community, we are striving to be an exceptional department for medical education, clinical program development, and career growth.”
