Highland Earns 'LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader' Designation

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, recently recognized Highland Hospital, Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH) and F.F. Thompson Hospital as 2019 national LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leaders.

Each year, the Rochester Business Journal celebrates exceptional health care workers in Greater Rochester with RBJ Health Care Heroes awards. These awards recognize excellence, promote innovation, and honor the efforts of organizations and individuals making a significant impact on the quality of health care in our area. The RBJ COVID 19 Heroes and the RBJ Health Care Heroes award recipients were honored during a virtual awards ceremony in August. 

Colleen T. Fogarty, M.D., M.Sc., FAAFP Accepted as a Fellow

Colleen T. Fogarty, M.D., M.Sc., FAAFP, William Rocktaschel Professor and Chair of the University of Rochester Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine, has been accepted as a Fellow in the 2020-2021, Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine ® (ELAM) Program for Women.Established in 1995, the ELAM program, which is hosted by Drexel University College of Medicine, offers an intensive one-year fellowship of leadership training with extensive coaching, networking and mentoring opportunities aimed at expanding the national pool of qualified women candidates for leadership in academic medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy.

New Telemedicine Technology Coming to Geriatrics Group

A new technology that improves telemedicine visits is coming to UR Medicine Geriatrics Group, thanks to a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. The Coronavirus Emergency Support Grant will fund Tryten telehealth carts with which providers can remotely position cameras, adjust audio, and better utilize diagnostic tools like digital stethoscopes and otoscopes. This telemedicine equipment will help provide mobile services to the highest need nursing homes in the area.

Highland Advances in US News & World Report Rankings

Highland Hospital has moved up to #2 in Rochester and #22 in New York in overall outcomes in the 2020 US News & World Report rankings. Last year, Highland ranked third in among area hospitals. U.S. News & World Report also ranks specialty areas of adult care. Four Highland specialty areas- COPD, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement, and Heart Failure-received "high performing" status with scores of 5 out of 5 stars. Specialty areas are assessed based on several quality measures.
