Highland Looks to the Future

Four years ago, we were in the beginning months of a pandemic that brought with it many challenges for all. It gave us a whole new perspective on the safe delivery of health care, and we pivoted on many of our systems and processes. We took a fresh look at how we do things, and we did not go back to all our old ways when the pandemic lifted. We adapted to the changes and looked forward to new and better ways of providing care.

Leadership Changes Coming for Strong Memorial, Highland Hospital and UR Medicine System

University of Rochester Medical Center CEO David Linehan, M.D., announced plans to enhance the roles of two successful, long-standing leaders to strengthen the UR Medicine network of hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing facilities and home care agencies. Effective July 1, current Strong Memorial Hospital Chief Operating Officer Kathy Parrinello will become President and CEO of Strong Memorial Hospital and will assume the President and CEO role at Highland Hospital before the end of 2024. Steve Goldstein, currently President and CEO of Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital, will strengthen his current role to continue to direct strategic integration of the UR Medicine health system.

Highland Hospital Honors Physician and Advanced Practice Provider of the Year

Highland Hospital honors Chin-Lin Ching, M.D, as Physician of the Year, and Rachel A. James, M.S., R.N., AGPCNP-BC as Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the year. They were recognized during the Highland Provider Recognition Event held in May at the Strathallan in Rochester.

Sally Rousseau Named John R. Williams Legacy Award Winner

Sally Rousseau, LCSW, LMFT, Director of Social Work & Care Management is the recipient of the 2023 John R Williams Legacy Award for Innovation and Improvement. Rousseau was nominated by several physician colleagues and the award was presented at the annual Highland Hospital service recognition event.

Agreement Will Strengthen Collaboration, Help St. John’s to Care for More ALC Patients

As part of ongoing efforts to address hospital overcrowding, URMC will strengthen collaboration with St. John’s Home to help the skilled nursing facility serve more patients after hospitalization. Located a short distance from both hospitals, St. John’s Home provides rehabilitation services and long-term care for hundreds of patients discharged from Strong and Highland each year.
