Going Home

Plan to have someone stay with you for 24 hours after surgery. No matter how you feel, someone should be there just in case you need help.

  • Make arrangements to have your prescriptions filled.
  • Follow any special instructions you were given and report any problems to your doctor right away. A nurse will call you a day or two after your procedure to ask how you are doing. Feel free to share your concerns or questions.

Home Care

The decision whether or not you need medical care after returning home will be made collectively by you, your social worker or care coordinator, your surgeon, your physical therapist, and your insurance company. If the team determines that you do need care at home, your care coordinator or social worker will make the arrangements for you. If you need rehabilitation or nursing care, you’re free to choose the facility that you want to use.
