URSMD Faculty Diversity Award

Dr. Timothy D. DyeDiversity, inclusion and multiculturalism are critical to the vitality and success of a thriving medical school community. Established in 2013, the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Faculty Diversity Award recognizes the exceptional contributions and accomplishments of medical school faculty to fostering a diverse and inclusive medical school community. Recipients demonstrate this commitment through leadership in recruitment and retention efforts, teaching, mentoring, research, multi-cultural programming, cultural competency, community outreach activities and/or other initiatives.

Diane Morse, MDThe 2018 recipient of the URSMD Faculty Diversity Award is Timothy D. Dye, PhD., Associate Chair, Research - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Professor - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Public Health Sciences, Department of Pediatrics.

As one of his nominators stated, “Tim opens opportunities for all”, a quality that has enriched his research group, the CTSI, our medical school and the communities in which he works. His commitment to and success in actively recruiting a diverse and multicultural research group was noted by all of his nominators. Dr. Dye is described as a “fearless advocate for the inclusion of all members of his teams and ensures they are treated equitably and with respect”. In addition, his research focuses on social and cultural determinants of health in numerous countries around the world and reflects not only his academic interests but his commitment to diverse, and often underserved, communities. Recently as a tireless advocate for those individuals who were impacted by hurricanes Maria and Irma in Puerto Rico Dr. Dye helped mobilize the initial response team to assist those in need in Puerto Rico.  These are just a few highlights of the impact that Dr. Dye has had on our school, our trainees, and our greater community.
