Program Overview

The 2016 URMC Cardiology for Clinicians Spring Symposium plans to go well beyond literature and guideline reviews to provide seasoned expert judgement and recommendations of key advanced and state of the art cardiovascular care that clinicians require and their patients expect. URMC's foremost cardiovascular clinicians lead the program's lectures, Q&A, case presentations and interactive breakout sessions covering:

  • Anticoagulation
  • Cardio-Oncology
  • Statin Risks and Benefits
  • New Hypertension Guidelines
  • Most challenging and interesting cardiac intervention and cardiac surgery cases of the year
  • Advanced cardiac resuscitation with ECMO, cooling and ventricular assist devices
  • Cardiac Imaging with CMR, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology
  • Cardiac prevention: imaging for prevention with coronary calcium scoring, new LDL lowering injectable medications for statin intolerant patients, and treating resistant hypertension
  • Review large trials of the role of anti-inflammatory medications and vitamins on risk of heart attack and stroke
  • Strategies to reduce heart failure re-admissions
  • Women's heart heathful techniques and tips
  • ISCHEMIA Trial Update

This educational activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, resident/fellows and nurses. 

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Diagnose and manage patients with cardiovascular disease
  • Evaluate and manage the cardio-oncology patient
  • Articulate risks and benefits of statins and put these into clinical perspective in formulating recommendations for treatment of patients with known or suspected cardiovascular disease
  • Explain and appropriately implement the new hypertension management evidence
  • Evaluate new therapies and novel approaches for the treatment of cardiovascular risk patients
  • Identify management strategies of resistant hypertension
  • Describe best practice strategies to prevent readmission's for heart failure in the current era
  • Describe differences in cardiovascular disease in women
  • Describe holistic cardiology and identify strategies to implement into practice
  • Recognize the aims and study design of the ISCHEMIA Trial
