The Lawrence Educational Symposium and Visiting Professorship Fund
Dr. Robert M. Lawrence was the first anesthesiology resident at the University of Rochester, in 1954. It was not until 1969 that the department transitioned from being a division of surgery to the current independent Department of Anesthesiology. After completing his residency training, Dr. Lawrence joined the Anesthesiology Faculty where he had a long distinguished career and provided significant contributions to the Department. Throughout his career, Dr. Lawrence was a knowledgeable and dedicated teacher and a compassionate and competent physician, who upheld the highest personal ethical standards. With support from his wife, Dr. Ruth Lawrence, the Lawrence Educational Symposium and Visiting Professorship was initiated to continue to honor his legacy.
