Advanced practice providers (APPs) provide care to patients in a variety of settings: home, outpatient offices, emergency department, and acute and critical care units in hospitals. Many of these patients will develop primary neurological problems requiring accurate diagnosis and treatment. Others will have comorbid neurological conditions, that the APP will need to have knowledge of. Recognition of urgent conditions is essential, as well as conditions that require emergent, life-saving neurological interventions.
The purpose of this symposium is to provide APPs with the skills required to care for patients with neurological conditions in all of these settings. Knowledge of neuroanatomy, skills to perform a neurological examination, knowledge of common diseases and disorders, and recognition and treatment of neurological emergencies will be presented to this wide and varied audience of APPs.
Course #1 will focus on neuroanatomy and examination, diagnosis and updates in treatment for common neurological problems such as stroke, headache, epilepsy, dementia, concussion and the dizzy patient, and how to recognize neurological emergencies.
This symposium is sponsored by the Sovie Center, Department of Neurology, Department of Neurosurgery and the Division of Neuro Critical Care.
