URMC ECHO Hospital Medicine Rounds
ECHO Hospital Medicine Rounds strengthens hospitalist care in URMC’s expanding regional hospital network so that community hospitals can retain and provide high-quality care to patients who do not require costly and inconvenient physical transfer to the medical center.
It is anticipated that greater retention of appropriate patients in community hospital settings will lead to improved quality and efficiency of care in those institutions. Also, to the extent that over-crowding in the medical center’s Emergency Department is proportionately reduced, the quality and efficiency of care will be improved at URMC and the region. Ideally, transfer of patients requiring specialty services would occur more promptly.
The ECHO Rounds development team monitors inter-hospital transfers on a quarterly basis and focuses semimonthly videoconferences on topics of high impact to the regional network. Because of the importance of behavioral health issues in our region, ECHO Rounds also addresses challenging behavioral conditions seen by hospital-based clinicians, particularly when retention of such patient in the community hospital is possible.
Hospital Medicine ECHO Rounds is supported by a federal-state Vital Access Program grant through St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, NY, one of our spoke community hospital sites.
Schedule
Hospital Medicine ECHO Rounds is held twice monthly, on the first and third Wednesdays of the month, from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. During each session, a case or several clinical scenarios are presented and discussed by spoke and hub participants. A short lecture is delivered by an invited expert that addresses a high impact topic, typically related to the case(s) discussed. Time is allowed for questions and answers.
