Marian Ackun-Farmmer selected to receive 2021 Outstanding Research award from the Society for Biomaterials

Photo of Marian Ackun-FammerCongratulations to Marian Ackun-Farmmer ’20 PhD of biomedical engineering. Marian has been selected to receive the 2021 Outstanding Ph.D. Research Award from the Society for Biomaterials, a singular, national award for all PhD level research. Marian was selected based on her outstanding research performed under the mentorship of Danielle Benoit,  professor of biomedical engineering and director of the Materials Science Program. Marian’s thesis was entitled  “Engineering Drug Delivery Systems to Improve Acute Myeloid Leukemia Treatments.” She was also co-founder and active member of the Rochester Chapter of the Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering, an initiative that encourages more people of color to pursue STEM-related majors and professions. Marian is now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Maryland under the mentorship of Prof. Christopher Jewell.

Brittany Haws awarded OREF Resident Research Project Grant

Photo of Brittany HawsCongratulations to Dr. Brittany Haws, an orthopaedic surgery resident conducting research in the Benoit Lab, who has received a Resident Research Project Grant from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF). Her project is titled, “Bone Targeted Drug Delivery for Fracture Healing in a Murine Nonunion Model.” Her Co-Principal Investigator on this project is Danielle Benoit.

Yuanhui Song and Yiming Li leave Benoit Lab to pursue postdoc positions

Dr. Yuanhui Song and Dr. Yiming Li are leaving the Benoit lab. Yuanhui will start another post-doc position in Zhen Ma lab in University of Syracuse. Yiming will also start her new post-doc position in Kenichi Kuroda Lab in University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Congratulations to both! You two will be missed in the lab, Yuanhui and Yiming, but we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Marian Ackum-Farmmer successfully defends PhD thesis
