Welcome to the McMurray Lab

McMurray Lab, 2013

My laboratory utilizes genomics and systems biological approaches to identify critical differences in the gene regulatory architecture of cancer and non-cancer cells. We focus on a set of molecules that control tumor formation capacity of cancer cells, known as ‘cooperation response genes’ (CRGs), which we have recently discovered control the growth of tumors from basal-like breast cancer cells. CRGs have a distinct role in cancer vs. non-cancer cells, leading us to find new pharmacologic agents, via chemical genomics, that may be useful in treatment of this highly aggressive form of breast cancer. We are working to understand how CRGs function distinctly in cancer and normal cell gene regulatory networks, as well as assessing the molecular and anti-tumor effects of our lead agents.
