Notability (for iPad, iOS 5.0 or later)

Review Author:
Platform: iOS
App or Mobile Website: App (link to App Store)
Does it require WiFi to work? Yes
Category: Productivity
Price: $1.99
Special Instructions: None
Tasks or Searches Tested: Handwriting - fun, but I could not figure out how to create a palm rest area to rest my palm that won't get marked up, though there is that functionality & it's probably easy to do. Advanced word processing. Linked audio recording - easy to do, but can't tell what part of notes the recording applies to Media insertion - extremely easy to do
Design: Interface is clean and fairly intuitive, although one reviewer, a teacher, preferred the Noteshelf and Remarks user interfaces to Notability's (Notability is the least expensive of the three.) I found this difficult to figure out at times, but I am new at these note-taking apps.
Functionality: Has left-handed mode and a customizable palm rest area. I could not figure out how to set a palm rest area, even with the HELP notes. The stylus/finger input option is accurate and responsive. A reviewer below says a solid performer, works as advertised.
Content: A note-taking app with full-featured handwriting, PDF annotation, advanced word processing, audio recording linked to notes; share through email or a cloud service such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, or WebDAV; visually attractive and fun to use. You can import photos, web clips, figures, and drawings.
Other Comments: An extremely popular, well-liked app. A few drawbacks: no iCloud integration so limited sync options; iTunes App File Sharing not fully automatic when exporting back to Mac; auto sync to cloud storage turned off by default, you have to turn it on in the settings.
Reviews from others:
Link Description "One of the most complete and professional note-taking apps available for iOS. Exceptional value for the level of functionality...a solid performer and works as advertised." "Perfectly suited for creating new notes and annotating PDFs.... Useful for dynamic note-taking that can change direction at any moment...one of those App Store gems..."
