Students are required to complete a Pathway project of their choosing—it can be a medical humanities or bioethics research project, a creative project (visual arts, narrative, film, photography, theatre), or an educational project (develop and teach a Medical Humanities elective with a faculty co-teacher during fourth year). Students select an advisor/mentor for this project from the Medical Humanities and Bioethics faculty or other faculty approved by the Pathway Director.
Medical Humanities Pathway Projects can focus on visual arts, literature, narrative, film, music, gender and women's studies, cultural studies, religious studies, philosophy, history or theatre.
In Year 1 and 2, students must meet with their advisor to identify areas of interest, learning goals and appropriate activities; identify, research and develop a project. In Year 3 and Year 4, students must meet with their Pathway Project mentor to review progress on their Project.
A two page Pathway Project Proposal is due by June 30 in Year 3.
The Pathway Project Progress Check Sheet is due by Oct 15 in Year 4.
Completed Projects must be submitted by February 1 in Year 4.
