Deaf Elders Around Rochester (D.E.A.R.)

Short Description:
A social support group that meets at RRCD on a regular basis to provide daytime opportunities for senior citizens to socialize.
Detailed Description:
D.E.A.R. was formed in 1974 when active deaf senior citizens found it difficult to go out in the evenings to socialize. They wanted to meet during the daytime, so D.E.A.R. was formed for this purpose.

At the clubhouse, the seniors may play cards or other games and socialize. They bring their own lunches. Special events are occasionally planned, such as daytime trips and having speakers on topics of interest. Sometimes a catered lunch may be served at these special events. D.E.A.R. meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at the Deaf Clubhouse.
