Movement Disorders

Our priority is to provide the best possible care, education and research opportunities to persons living with or caring for persons living with neurological movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, Huntington’s disease, or dystonia.

Care: Our team includes more than a dozen board certified adult and child neurologists with specialized training in movement disorders, as well as neuropalliative care specialists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and administrators. We are proud to be Center of Excellence of the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Huntington’s Disease Society of America and the Tourette Association of America. We offer botulinum toxin injections, deep brain stimulation therapy, intestinal levodopa infusion and other advanced therapies. Our division also hosts a Spanish language neurology clinic. We are leading the development of supportive and palliative care for movement disorders and our providers are committed to providing comprehensive person-centered care for patients and families.

Education: We offer comprehensive fellowship training in movement disorders, including clinical and research focused training, in collaboration with the Parkinson's Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation and other organizations. We offer training in movement disorders as part of our NIH-funded T32 training program in Experimental Therapeutics. We collaborate with the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) to mentor institutions in low-resource settings to develop their own movement disorders programs (MDS Center-to-Center Program), and to offer cross-cultural education to faculty and trainees (MDS-PAS Visiting Trainee Program, Neurology Peru-Rochester exchange program).

Research: Our team includes accomplished clinician researchers, a clinical research manager, research coordinators and health project coordinators. We conduct investigator-initiated research studies and we participate in sponsored studies within the field of movement disorders. Our group includes founding and active members of the Parkinson Study Group and the Huntington Study Group. We have active research collaborations with the Center for Health + Technology and the Department of Neuroscience. Our team members have contributed to the field of movement disorders with impactful scholarly work and research.
