Curriculum

Our neuromuscular teaching curriculum actively involves fellows in their own learning, in the educational conferences that occur on a weekly basis throughout the year, and in monthly journal clubs.  In addition to the electrodiagnostic and clinical curriculum, fellows will learn neuromuscular pathology and have workshops in neuromuscular ultrasound.  

Typical Week

  • Day starts at 8 AM
  • 4 half day of neuromuscular /MDA clinic
  • 3-4 half days in the EMG lab
  • 1 half day of research/scholarly activities
  • 1-2 half days of muscle and nerve pathology
  • Ability to work with core faculty throughout the year

Didactics and Conferences

Daily EMG Sign-out Rounds

An interactive 30-60 minute instructive case(s) seen in the EMG Laboratory emphasizing clinical and electrodiagnostic teaching points.

Neurology Grand Rounds (Wednesdays at noon)

Formal presentation given either live, virtually, or hybrid by an expert on topics pertinent to furthering the educational gap within the Neurology Department.

EMG Conference (Weekly, Fridays from 10:00a-12p)

A weekly lecture series targeted to the Neuromuscular Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology fellows to review the fundamentals of EMG, nerve conduction studies, peripheral anatomy, neuropathology, and clinical and electrodiagnostic aspects of the major nerve and muscle diseases. 

Monthly Neuromuscular Journal Clubs (8:00a the 2nd Friday of the month)

These are live or via Zoom format once a month. This is a review of the classic or new literature where fellows present seminal trials and practice-defining studies of the field and explore new topics in neuromuscular and epilepsy literature.

Program Benefits

  • Vacation – Fellows at URMC receive 20 days of vacation and 9 University holidays.
  • Educational Leave – Fellows are allowed 5 days of educational leave to attend conferences or sit for their boards.
  • Professional Education Stipend – Fellows receive a $1,000 educational allowance to be used towards purchasing anything pertaining to furthering their education in the Neuromuscular field.
