Have a Little Heart: Valentine Speed-Dating Event to Benefit Golisano Children's Hospital

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Finding a little romance this Valentine’s Day just got easier.  On Saturday, Feb. 11, The Singles Dating EventSM teams us with Golisano Children’s Hospital for an elegant speed-dating “love fest” that doubles as a fund-raiser.

That way, even if you don’t end up finding Cinderella (or Prince Charming), you still can drive home happy knowing that your evening helped kids.

“Last year’s event was the first time we tried speed-dating as a fund-raiser, and it raised  more than $2,000 for the hospital.  This year, we’ve set our goal even higher—$2,500,” said Rhonda Vaccaro, vice president of The Singles Dating Event. She and Nicole Mahoney, president, both have children who benefited from services provided by Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.

“Just think," Vaccaro said.  “While you’re raising money for children needing complex care, you might also find that special someone.”

Formal attire is recommended for  the event, which  will be held at the University of Rochester’s Arthur Kornberg Medical Center in the Sarah Flaum Atrium (at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Kendrick Road). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for check-in and mingling; formal six-minute “dates” begin at 8 p.m., as pre-selected for participants based on preferred age ranges. (Each participant is guaranteed at least six, but enjoy as many as 12 “dates” throughout the evening.)

The cost is $75 per person, which includes a $20 tax-deductible donation to the hospital, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, free parking, and a cash bar to round out the event. A raffle will be held, filled with couple-appropriate prizes – like dinner for two at a local restaurant-- to further benefit the children’s hospital.

Pre-registration is required by Feb. 10. More information is available online (link below) or by calling Rhonda Vaccaro or Nicole Mahoney at (585) 621-9484.
