Spring Clean to Make Money, Help Kids

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Your spring cleaning (and shopping!) will support Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.

Like killing two birds with one stone?  All you have to do is comb through your kids’ closets, take their nice-but-too-tight clothes, and you’ll turn them into profit for you and Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. As We Grow, a children’s and junior’s clothing store in Canandaguia, N. Y., will hold its spring consignment sale from 9 a.m. to  7 p.m. on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6, followed by a half-off sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, at the Greater Canandaigua Civic Center, 250 N. Bloomfield Road.

It works like this: register with a $10 non-refundable fee, by Friday, April 28 (you’ll need to get moving!) Then, start gathering gently used children and junior-sized clothing and shoes (as well as maternity and baby accessories, such as cribs, bedding, toys, books, videos, strollers, walkers, etc.) for screening at the civic center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, May 1 to 3. Clothing must be in good condition, stylish enough for the upcoming season and hung on hangers.

Consigners will have the opportunity to price their own items or have As We Grow do the work for them. (There’s a 65-35 split in your favor, if you mark your own; otherwise, you’ll split profits in half with the shop.) As We Grow will donate a portion of its share of the earnings – not yours – to Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.

Consigners are also invited to sign up for three-hour shifts volunteering at the sale; if they do, they’re invited to a “preview party” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, where they’ll have first pickings of the items available for sale.

For information on consigning your items (the deadline is Friday, April 28, so you’ll want to get moving), or on shopping the sale, contact store owner, Nancy Langmead, at (585) 396-1110.
