Gala Sprawls over Not One, but Two Airplane Hangars
Friday, October 13, 2006
It’s proof that more and more of the community is taking a vested interest in our region’s only children’s hospital.
A testament to the prodigious growth and change at Golisano Children’s Hospital this year is the amount of space needed for this year’s Gala, set for Saturday, Oct. 21: festivities and guests will now be housed in not one, but two spacious airplane hangars.
“It’s proof that more and more of the community is taking a vested interest in our region’s only children’s hospital,” said John Glynn, the event’s chair.
The annual black-tie event drew a record 920 guests last year. It also netted a record $435,000 – making it the children’s hospital’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
This year, the Gala’s planners have already attracted 950 persons.
“It’s a chance for all of us to spend just one night giving back to a hospital that’s busy helping to make miracles every single day,” said Mark Siewert of Pittsford, who owns Siewert Construction Company and serves as this year’s honorary Gala chair, together with his wife, Marcia.
Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., and will be held at USAirports Aircraft Hangar, 1295 Scottsville Road. The night, courtesy of presenting sponsor, ESL Federal Credit Union, includes music by Nik and the Nice Guys, dinner and live and silent auctions (including gift certificates, restaurant certificates, vacation packages and more), all centered around a fall harvest theme, which perfectly captures the real heart of the season and the evening: gratefulness and giving back.
