The surprising winners of the first University of Rochester Medical Center Great Scholarship Shootout – the hospital staff team – will defend their title Sunday Nov. 19 as the tournament moves to McQuaid Jesuit High School.
The Shootout supports the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Endowed Scholarship Initiative.
The basketball tournament matches teams of School of Medicine and Dentistry faculty against School of Medicine students. A team of medical residents will play the hospital staff team. The winners will play for the Shootout title.
Tip-off is at at McQuaid, 1800 S. Clinton Ave., Brighton.
Tickets are on sale now. The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 273-2782. Tickets also will be available at the door on the day of the Shootout.
The scholarship initiative is a campaign to increase the School of Medicine scholarship endowment by $10 million. Medical students face a large and growing debt burden. The average debt for the last two graduating classes was more than $130,000. School of Medicine Dean David S. Guzick, M.D., Ph.D., launched a campaign to increase scholarship endowments. A $10-million increase would generate about $550,000 each year in new scholarship aid.
