Glaucoma Expert Offers Free Health Workshop Nov. 1

Event Part of University of Rochester Medical Center ‘Always Better’ Series

Wednesday, November 8, 2006

A University of Rochester Eye Institute glaucoma expert will host a free community health event on Nov. 1 about the disease, part of a series of Always Better health workshops open to the public.

“Glaucoma: Looking for Answers” will be presented from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Strong Memorial Hospital’s Whipple Auditorium, Room 2-6424. Shakeel Shareef, M.D., associate professor of Ophthalmology and a glaucoma specialist at the University of Rochester Eye Institute, will discuss what everyone should know about one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States. He will answer questions, including:

  • Who is at risk for glaucoma?
  • What is intraocular pressure?
  • How does glaucoma progress?
  • How is glaucoma detected?
  • What are the surgical and non-surgical treatment options?

The Always Better workshops are made possible through collaboration between the University of Rochester Medical Center and the University of Rochester Office of Special Programs. All programs and parking for them are free of charge. To register, please call (585) 275-2344.
