Unlocking Love is Key to Helping Kids Valentine’s Weekend

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

This singles mixer could add sparkle to your life -- and to kids' lives -- at the same time.

Join more than 100 other area singles Saturday, Feb. 10 for an event with a “key” twist that will benefit Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong and, potentially, your love life.

The Valentine’s Day Lock & Key Event is the third annual For the Love of Life mingling event hosted by The Singles Dating Event. Running from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Strathallan Hotel, 550 East Ave., the night brings light hors’ doeuvres, a Chinese raffle, door prizes, cash bar, and of course, the glimmering hope of meeting that special someone. Formal attire is suggested.

The lock and key concept, now being used in larger metropolitan cities like London and New York, is an icebreaker at singles mingles; ladies receive a padlock and the gentlemen each receive a key. Participants spend their time figuring out whose key fits whose lock.

Once a match is found, the combo is turned in for a raffle ticket to be used towards a door prize and the participants receive a new lock and key to continue meeting new people.

Launched in 2002 by Nicole Mahoney and Rhonda Vaccaro, the Singles Dating Event is Rochester’s own mingling event service that specializes in creating the largest, most fun, upscale and relaxed romantic mixers in the city – resulting in dozens of weddings and even more long term relationships. Both founders have daughters who relied on the care offered at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong. Grateful, together they have raised almost $4,000 for the hospital through their two previous For the Love of Life events.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door, and include a $20 tax-deductible donation to Golisano Children’s Hospital. For more information, please call (585) 621-9484 or visit To register, call toll-free (866) 602-DATE.
