Hospital Gala Raises Funds for New Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Thursday, October 31, 2002

More than 600 community members gathered on Saturday, Oct. 26, during the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong Gala. The annual event netted more than $270,000 to help build a needed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Construction of the new unit is set to begin next summer.

Anthony J. Costello and his wife, Elaine, honorary co-chairs of this year’s Gala, organized the event with the help of Howard Jacobson, who served as chair of the annual fund-raiser. The Costellos were pleased with the turnout, the guests’ participation, and their role in helping support the region’s only children’s hospital. “Having four children and eight grandchildren, we really appreciate how important it is to have a quality children’s hospital right here in our hometown,” Anthony J. Costello says.

The Gala was held at USAirports Air Charters Aircraft Hangar, 240 Airport Way, at the Greater Rochester International Airport.

Mr. Costello is a successful entrepreneur, having started USAirports nearly 20 years ago. The company is in the business of airport development, aviation hangars, air charters, aviation services, aircraft fueling, and cargo handling. He is also the founder of Anthony J. Costello and Son Development, a company he operates with his son, Brett.

“We’re so pleased to have such wonderful relationships with community leaders such as Anthony and Elaine Costello,” says Elizabeth McAnarney, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief. “When we work together for the benefit of children, we can do anything.”

The Gala included live and silent auctions, dinner, and the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing night out with like-minded people who make it a priority to support children’s health. Many outstanding items were up for bid, including several trips on private jets to a number of different destinations. One of the trips is on an aircraft from the USAirports Air Charters’ fleet.

As an extra bonus, Gala attendees were able to view a number of aircraft, which were inside the 30,000-square-foot hangar. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2003 Golisano Children’s Hospital Gala. For more information, or to donate an item for the live or silent auction, call 585-273-5948.
