The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) has recognized the Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital with an Auxiliary Advocacy Recognition Certificate. The honor acknowledges individual auxiliaries for their contributions to their health care facilities and their communities.
During any given year, the Friends of Strong provides volunteers to the hospital and raises money that assists with hospital programs and the purchase of equipment, all of which impacts the care of patients at Strong Memorial Hospital, said director Louise Criticos. More than 1,200 individuals donate time (about 124,000 hours) and much-needed funds are raised though proceeds from initiatives that include the Gift Shop, the annual Wine Tasting event, special sales, the Rochester River Run 5K Walk/Run, and newborn photos. A portion of the sales at the Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters also are included. In 2006, more than $650,000 was given to Strong Memorial Hospital.
In addition to providing valuable services, the Friends of Strong’s activities help raise awareness of the prominent role of health care facilities in the larger community. Statewide, more than 230 health care auxiliaries are affiliated with HANYS, which serves as the key statewide advocate for more than 550 nonprofit and public hospitals, health systems, nursing facilities, home care agencies and adult day care programs.
