Last year’s run raised more than $300 for the children’s hospital, despite persistent rain showers.
New Breed Motorcycle Club is revving up for its 3rd Annual Poker Run, a fundraiser that runs rain or shine to benefit ill and injured kids at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.
Registration begins 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Matella's Restaurant, 1479 Lyell Ave. Cost is $15 per rider and $10 per passenger. The poker run starts at noon with each biker receiving a playing card; bikers then continue on for more than 100 miles, pausing at three stops along the way to collect the remaining cards. A final card is presented to each cyclist at the endpoint party location, The Jukebox, 5435 Ridge Road West, where the person holding the best hand — as well as the person holding the worst — will both win cash prizes.
The Jukebox’s endpoint party is open to non-bikers, too, for a $10 walk-in fee that includes music by Third Degree (a hard-driving rock and blues quartet) and garbage plate eats (hot dogs, hamburgers, macaroni salad, etc.). 50-50 raffles and portraiture courtesy of Uptown Images will provide additional fundraising incentives at the party.
