Wilmot Lymphoma Expert to be Honored at Gilda’s Gala Sept. 29

James P. Wilmot Cancer Center’s Jonathan Friedberg, M.D., will be honored Saturday during the annual Gilda’s Club Gala.  He will receive the 2007 Jacob Gitelman Award for outstanding service to people with cancer in the Rochester community.

“Dr. Friedberg is a wonderful clinician with a sensitive bedside manner,” said Beverly Brooks, executive director for Gilda’s Club.  “We are grateful to Dr. Friedberg’s time and generosity because he volunteers to speak at the Clubhouse on various cancer related topics.”

Friedberg, associate professor of Hematology/Oncology, is director of hematological malignancies clinical research and inpatient hematology services at the Wilmot Cancer Center and a highly respected clinician specializing in lymphoma care.

He came to Rochester five years ago to help expand lymphoma care and build a thriving research program at the Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Friedberg coordinates clinical trials for patients with indolent B-cell malignancies and Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is a graduate of WilliamsCollege and Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowships at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.

Previous recipients of the Jacob Gitelman Award include Wilmot Cancer Center oncologists Louis “Sandy” Constine, M.D., professor of Radiation Oncology, and David Korones, M.D., professor of Medicine and Oncology.
